Yo!
My exams start on the 15th but im not in the panic mood yet. i just went shopping in town alone after meeting up with my project group today..bought myself a diesel bag and a future state skirt and about 300g of famous amos cookies (which my stupid bro wolfed down in the 5 minutes i wasn’t guarding them). Retail therapy? Hmm….
Speaking of retail therapy, i really wonder, who the hell REALLY engages in REAL retail therapy? I mean, im on friendster and i see alot of girls list retail therapy as one of the favourite things they like to do. I mean, do they really KNOW what they are talking about???
To believe in retail therapy (let’s call it RT for convenience sake ok?) is one thing, to engage in shopping and consumption as a form of therapy is another. I mean, let’s face it, unless you have suitcases of money to burn…it’s NOT retail therapy. Of course, unless, your problem is so damned small that just by buying $2 nail polish from Sasa would solve it. In this case, you’d probably have enough nail polish to open another cheapo store. But then again, if that’s the case, that’s not RT, that’s called ‘cheapskate over-the-bloody-counter fix’. Therapy, my dear, is a treatment for a chronic illness (read: long expensive process).
I just find it so funny that people always say that they LOVE RT when most of them won’t ever earn enough to really consume. Unless you are Michael Jackson (he bought an entire store of antiques..i saw on TV..heck! He owns Neverland!!!) or JLo or Julia Roberts..there’s just no way you can have the oodles of money needed for ‘therapy’. I think it would be more apt to say that one WISHES oh-so-badly to be able to afford RT.
I guess it’s just a Singaporean thing..like what one of my English teachers used to say “When you say travelling is your hobby, how many countries have you actually visited? Malaysia and its many states not withstanding.”
Think about it. I think its a real hoot!

hello.
i watched the local movie “15″ by royston tan last night. Mm..i would say it was pretty good, though as the review fr the straits times say, the 2nd half was a little draggy..but overall, for a local production, its not bad..
Spoiler alert! STOP Reading HERE if u plan to watch it!
I felt that the portrayal of the mindsets of the bengs was startling accurate..though the movie merely skims the surface and not all bengs are so despondant. But then again, art film usually don’t care if u get it or not, only that it has been made. The audience jus has to learn how to consume such a film on its own and the director/producer jus makes the film.
Anyhow, the part where (cant really rememer their names) the ang mo pai kids started a fight with the bengs was rather weird. I mean, yes…the movie managed to show a different (and in my opinion, accurate) perspective of the english speaking crowd (jus sometimes really just think too high and mighty of themselves), i just don’t think such stuff really happens in real life. Im not saying that the ang mo pai and the bengs don’t clash, they most probarly do..but what i think is that the english speaking crowd is rather unlikely to pick an ACTUAL fight with the street kids. It jus goes against common sense. In my humble opinion, i think the ang mo pai is more likely to jus slinker away and bitch (like mad!!) about how uncouth and hooligan-like the bengs are.
On the other hand, the times may have changed…i have no idea how is the situation like now and how secondary students think…what i have is merely my own experiences which have yellowed with time…
You know, the part where the the leader of the ang mo pai gang was caught and beaten up real bad, i felt a certain relishment…i really felt it served him right..and its interesting how the concept of loyalty came up..like how all the other english speaking kids jus ran away and left their buddy in the lurch..i really dunno how true a reflection is this since i never really belonged to an ang mo pai anyway…but to me, it seems like a good representation of public sentiment that the educated are often more concerned about saving their own skins than those of their friends…
Or, it could be argued that because these kids are more educated, they realise that ‘there’s no such thing as eternal friends or foes’ – an underlying concept throughout 15.
Mm…enough of my blah blahs, basically i really enjoyed the movie..It was realistic enough and really captured the essence..though i feel that it could have been better if the issues were explored more in depth.
Yet, the point of the movie is not to explain the actions or the life of the street kids to the masses, especially not the higher class, but rather to point out how misunderstood and how they too are humans….just like us.

hi people,
i was reading the newspaper today and came across this article written by this male journalist grousing about the fact that sex never comes free. He wrote a full half-page! He was saying that everyone pays for sex, one way or the other..in cash or in kind..
As i was read it, i kept resisting the urge to hit my forehead in exasperation. How duh can that guy get? Its like he never ever heard of the phrase ” there’s no such thing as a free lunch”. Why, seriously..nothing in this world is free. In fact, i even doubt love is free. You see, i read this other article once ( though now i cant remember where i read it) that parents do not naturally need to love their children.
Why do i doubt love is free? Well, if ur nasty enough to a person for a long enough time, he’ll / she’ll stop loving u. Of course, nobody would stupid enough to try..but this jus proves the point that that someone expects something (mainly u reciprocating his/her love and so be nice an lovey dovey) in return for giving their heart to u…
Since when can anyone really love someone who hated them to the core? Xie Shaoguang in Holland V excluded. In fact, i think people are more tied down by this psychological trap called cognitive dissonance than anything else. I really do.
Just my bo liao thoughts acting up again..see ya!

I’m glad to announce that my friendster friend list is getting longer…albeit really slowly. Well, at least its a start..
I feel so uptight right now. I am actually starting to hate school becuz its really giving me lotsa stress..hope i dun flunk any module this sem..else im reali dead..cant bear the thought of having to catch up for another 2 sems…sigh…
Caught the movie ‘rundown’ on sat…Mmm..it wasn’t as bad as the critics said it was…though The Rock still acts like The Rock…’cept he’s real kind hearted and not into guns because “bad things happen” when he uses guns.
In my opinion, its an okay show..nothing heavy..worth the money to see the hilarious facial expressions of The Rock and the irritating whines of his side-kick (dunno what the hell’s his name).
Mmm……basically nothing much to blog about…im starting to worry that i am becoming boring. Why, i feel boring. Sigh. Really, all work and no play makes Audrey a dull girl. I’m so out of ideas i think im getting repetitive here.

And now, my printer just died. *sigh*. Great.
Oh, are you guys on friendster? its like everybody is on friendster now…i was a little skeptical at first…but now..i think it’s pretty cool…though im a little embarassed at the low number of friends i’ve got. Ah well…what to do? So….you know what to do…after you finish reading this, go add me. Haha…
Tomorrow, two of my friends are getting married. Its really exciting. These two have been dating for like 9 years! Amazing! Haha..they like started since they were 18. They are also each others’ first love. So sweet ya? So like the movies…Seriously wonder how they do it. According to the girl, she never looked for a boyfriend, she looked for a husband. All i can say is, she’s got goooooood foresight. Haha..
